Picture – Janice and Courtney in the bus waiting to go practice with the team at the archery field.

Tuesday, October 2

We got into bed around midnight and slept soundly for about 3 hours.  After that, sleep was difficult.  My body was so tired, but my mind was ready to start the day.  We got up around 6:00 and I used Skype to call Ted’s class at Delta College.  It was really great hearing the voices of the whole class shouting hello to me and being able to talk to them from so far away.

We weren’t sure at all what the schedule was with the team or when breakfast was.  No one had told us anything when we arrived last night.  So we decided to call the front desk to find out what they could tell us.  They said breakfast was between 7:00 and 9:00.  We got to the dining room at around 8:45 and were still in time to have something to eat.  We went to the lobby to see if we could find anyone from the U.S. team.  We found Kim and Randi and they said they were getting ready to go to the archery field to practice.  She said the last shuttle would be leaving at 10:30 and lunch would be served at the field.  We went up to our room and changed into our U.S.A. team shirts and caught the next shuttle to the field.  Once we arrived at the field and met up with the team, we felt like we were finally in sync.

Practice went really well.  Randi said not to over do it.  The point was just to loosen up after such a long plane trip.  I felt really good.  I was shooting my shot and I felt strong.

Lunch was provided under a tent there at the range.  Courtney said it felt like we were on MASH because we used metal trays like they had in the mess hall to eat off of.  The food was very interesting.  Not really sure what it all was, but it was Korean food – lightly battered fish, an egg thing like quiche, a kind of noodle or sprout type of soup, beef and, of course, kimchi.  The kimchi was very spicy hot.  Just to barely touch it to your tongue burned.  Courtney really liked it.

One of the archers on the team, Kevin, is very open to new food experiences.  There is a stand at the field also where you can bye food, local stuff.  They apparently had corn dogs and sodas.  Well, they also had something that Lindsey said looked like larvae.  Kevin said it was bigger than larvae and the lady was frying them up in a pan.  He tried them and said it was crunchy.  Lindsey has video to prove it.  Yuck!

We got back to the Hotel around 3:30 and have time off until 6:30 when we will have a team meeting and then have dinner.

I really miss my Liza girl, but this would not have been a good trip for her.  I know she’s happy with her friends at Guide Dogs.

I will try to post some pictures later.
