Jeff Fabry, shown competing at the 2004 Paralympic Games, can now look ahead to the 2008 Games with a third consecutive world championship on his resumé.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Winning a gold medal at a World Championships is always a great accomplishment, but Jeff Fabry (Tulare, Calif.) is beginning to make it look routine.

Fabry took the top prize by defeating Finland’s Osmo Kinnunen in the men’s W1 Compound final at the IPC Archery World Championships in Cheongju, Korea, giving him gold medals in three consecutive World Championships. In doing so, he set three new world records in the head-to-head tournament - quarterfinal score, finals score and three-round total (quarterfinals through finals) – in addition a new world record set in the preliminary round from 70m.

Fabry was one of two U.S. medalists and four top-5 finishers at the event. Janice Walth (Lodi, Calif.) finished with the silver medal in the Visually Impaired class. Eric Bennett (Glendale, Ariz.) and Kevin Stone (Kodak, Tenn.) each narrowly missed the podium, finishing fourth in the Open Compound and fifth in the W2 Recurve, respectively.

Three other American archers finished in the top-15 in their respective categories, as well - Lindsey Carmichael (Lago Vista, Texas - 15th in AR3 Recurve), Chuck Lear (Lee’s Summit, Mo. - 15th in W1 Compound) and T.J. Pemberton (Moore, Okla. - 13th in Open Compound).

A total of 240 athletes from 38 countries competed at the event. The host nation, Korea, won the overall medal count with eight. The U.S. tied for fourth with its two-medal finish.
